Reliance has offered JIO SIM Card, free of cost. It became very important to test the network as they have planned to launch their commercial operations. The time period of SIM Card offer was fixed to end on Dec. 31, 2016. But now, the news came that Reliance will extend the offer for three months more, i.e. March, 2017.
One of the News paper named Mint says that the strategy head of Reliance want that it will not be favorable to charge any revenue from customers until they get satisfactory services. They feel that charging from customers will be unfair until management assures the quality of services. It is expected that Reliance will extend its offer till March, 2017. Reliance announced that all other operators like Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea are not providing required numbers of POI (points of interconnection). Chairman of Reliance, Mr. Mukesh Ambani also stated that it is like “Domination of new workers by the old ones”. Reliance has also got permission from TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) for its free offer and plans. Side by side, they also have limited Reliance to end their offer on Dec. 3, 2016.
JIO spokesperson also told that Reliance JIO offer will be available to all customers till Dec. 31, 2016 and subscription for new customers till Dec. 3, 2016. During the launch of JIO, it was declared that the company has the right to extend the offers for present customers after Dec.31, 2016. If, the customers will have any complaints regarding connectivity due to limited interconnections.
Statement given by Mr. Anshuman Thakur (Vice President, Finance at Reliance) also supports above fact. According to him, TRAI has been informed about the fact that due to too much of interconnection, they are unable to provide the facilities to their customers whom they have promised. Hence, they have planned no to take any money charges as it is not fair.
Now, if we have a review of all the facts above stated, it is evident that pressure will always remain on officials (with named positions) to agree to provide enough POI required to run the network smoothly. Now, it will be a matter to watch whether TRAI will be agreeable for this strategy or not. Let’s wait and watch the next scenario of Reliance until they make any new announcements regarding JIO.
